Day 2 was drawing to a close as we descended upon Naas and we stopped
to ask a twenty strong brood of teen Goths in black hoodies, for the
location of the best pint in their town. ‘Da foive lamps’ came the
prepubescent reply and we quickly pulled up outside the famous Naas
Courthouse – where the film Veronica Guerin was apparently filmed.
The Five Lamps
was indeed a most agreeable watering hole with plenty of lively
chatter and plastic shamrocks. We supped our drinks and admired
a ten year old kid belting out ‘Dirty Old Town’ – clearly the children
have taken over here. After finding a photographer amongst the hordes
of smokers standing in the doorway, we jumped in the car and drove
on into the night and towards Offaly.
