Peggy cooked us a solid fry in the morning and that, coupled with
warm sunshine oustide, rejuvenated us all. We thanked our hosts
for their hospitality and drove northwards through Nenagh and towards
Galway for our first pint of Day 4. Appropriately for Tipperary,
we were stuck behind a horse box most of the way! We eventually
passed through the village of Portumna, who had just won the senior
hurling final. The blue and yellow bunting was everywhere and the
pubs were all open despite it being only 10:30. We wanted to stop
here and sample the atmosphere, but, Mass was in full swing and
there was not a single parking space to be seen.
Around
11:00, we found Ballinasloe and spent five minutes trying to find
a pub that was open. Downey's fitted the bill and was surprisingly
busy for a Sunday morning. Bones was on his usual blistering form
at the pool table dispatching Hon as Brian, Boris and Didsy discussed
the prospects of the coming day. Outside the bar, we stopped an
old man and gave him the camera. Despite having a tremor of Michael
J. Fox standards, he took a very good photo! |
