County No. 6 MONAGHAN
Town Carrickmacross
Pub The Fiddler's Elbow

We've all passed through Carrickmacross down the years - usually on the way to Slane - but never actually stopped there. The second pint of Day 2 was found in The Fiddler's Elbow.

This pub is cathedral in size with a ceiling at least 4m high! Brian was very impressed although disappointed by the continuing lack of black Aftershock in the Banana Republic. Hon and Didsy had also discovered that Magners magically becomes Bulmers once you cross the border. A tasty looking carvery lunch was being lined up for the locals who would soon descend in their droves when Mass was over, but we really couldn't hang about since we still had another six counties to sample that day.

Would we go back?
A late night with some live music or Sunday carvery lunch are very tempting options - definitely worth a visit
Best Moment
Local Garda policeman 'Martin' stopping two lanes of traffic just so we could cross the road! What a legend!
