It was around 13:00 on Day 2 when we landed into the one-street-town
of Kingscourt on the eastern edge of Cavan. Mass was over and the
St. Paddy's day parades were in full swing despite the weather being
Baltic. These parades generally feature anything in the local village/parish
that can move. This particular demonstration featured amongst other
things a donkey tied to a haystack, a brass band, fourteen teenage
boys kicking footballs and a tractor with a girl sitting in the
back whacking the linkbox with a hurley stick.
After
a solid pint in Malone's, we suddenly discovered to our horror that
the car was trapped between a graveyard wall and the ongoing carnival.
Once again, however, the local Garda came to our rescue with a friendly
smile and stopped the whole show to let us make our getaway. |
