Although
it is probable that the mission could be acheived in three
days or less, we were faced with a long weekend around St.
Patrick's day and to be honest, we couldn't wait to get started!
The
chosen route was a combination of ideas derived from several
drunken discussions, previous holiday experience and one particularly
vivid dream. We planned three stops: Belfast, Offaly &
Tipperary. These were chosen because we had friends &
family to house and feed us.
In
practice, navigation was difficult because of ethanol-induced
psychomotor retardation and the fact that the map kept disappearing
amongst the general mess inside the car. Roads in Ireland
are generally good, but signs are notoriously ambigious and
open to local vandalism - we got completely lost up some mountain
on the Cork-Kerry border.
